Methodology

How we review

By SudoAI Team

We evaluate software the way we use it: with real code, constrained budgets, and an emphasis on shipping without friction.

Who we are

We are the SudoAI Team, a small team that builds and ships software products and runs sudoai.net. We write specifically for indie makers, solo developers, and small development teams who are choosing tools to get real work done.

We do not write generic procurement guides for enterprise buyers. Our criteria reflect the daily realities of small teams: time to first value, maintenance burden, documentation clarity, and pricing transparency.

How we pick tools

We select tools based on real selection questions that arise when building and shipping products. Rather than publishing mass comparison pages to capture search engine traffic, we focus on tools that solve concrete problems across three main stages:

  • Ship: Tools for launching, public distribution, product onboarding, landing pages, and reaching early users.
  • Build: Scaffolding, coding assistants, testing frameworks, and local development workflows.
  • Run: Hosting, deployment pipelines, application monitoring, and day-to-day operations.

We focus on software that we or our readers are actively considering for production use. This includes indie utilities, open-source projects, and commercial software that has no affiliate program. We refuse to write mass “X vs Y” pages simply to chase keywords.

How we test

We are transparent about our testing resources and their natural limits:

  • Free tiers and free trials only: We have no dedicated paid-testing budget. Because of this, paid plans are NOT tested.
  • Documented scope: Every review or comparison page explicitly notes which specific plan or tier was evaluated and the exact date the test was performed.
  • Firsthand claims: Any claim of hands-on experience comes backed by our own working notes, terminal output, or actual screenshots taken during the evaluation session.
  • Realistic tests: Where we can, we try tools on small real projects instead of empty demo templates.

“Not tested” labels

Being clear about what we did not test is just as important as reporting what we did:

  • Anything we did not personally try in our hands-on session is explicitly marked as “not tested”.
  • This includes all paid-tier features, multi-seat team management, advanced enterprise security, and high-volume limits.
  • When we discuss untested capabilities for completeness, we summarize them from the vendor's official public documentation in our own words, clearly noting that the information is vendor-reported.

Prices and plan limits

Software pricing and plan boundaries change constantly:

  • Paraphrased details: We summarize pricing models and plan limits in plain English instead of copying vendor marketing tables.
  • “Price checked” dates: Every price reference carries a visible “price checked” date. We only update this date when we actually re-check the vendor's live pricing page.
  • Verify before buying: Prices, quotas, and feature tiers change often. Always confirm current pricing and terms on the vendor's site before making a purchase.

Commissions don't buy rankings

Our evaluations remain independent of commercial relationships:

  • No ranking influence: An affiliate program never determines a tool's position, ranking order, or final verdict.
  • Independent inclusion: Tools without affiliate programs are regularly evaluated and listed alongside commercial options.
  • “Who should not use this” notes: Every single review includes dedicated notes highlighting who should skip the tool, when it is the wrong fit, and where it falls short.
  • Full disclosure: We do not accept payment for placement or favorable reviews. For full details on how we handle commercial links, read our affiliate disclosure.

Corrections

If something in our notes is inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date, please let us know. You can reach us through any of the contact channels on our About page. When we verify an error or meaningful update, we fix the page and note material changes.
