What it does
  • Collapse runs of spaces / blank lines
  • Strip zero-width chars, smart quotes → ASCII
  • Remove common chat UI crumbs (“Copy”, “Regenerate”, timestamps, “You said:”)
  • Aggressive: also drops bullet noise and markdown fence wrappers
  • Strip markdown: removes fences, **bold**/*italic* markers, and heading hashes for plain-chat paste
  • Structure / JSON / System: add scaffolding only when missing

FAQ

How do I remove markdown from a ChatGPT prompt?

Paste the text, then click Strip markdown. That preset removes code fences, bold/italic markers, and heading hashes so you can paste into a plain chat box. Prefer Aggressive strip if you also want chat UI crumbs and bullet noise cleaned.

Is this prompt cleaner online private? Does data leave the browser?

Yes — cleaning runs in your browser only. This page does not upload the prompt you paste. Pair with the ChatGPT token counter & LLM cost calculator (also client-side) if you want a rough size check before sending.

How do Minimal, Aggressive, and Structure presets differ?

Minimal clean normalizes whitespace, smart quotes, and common chat crumbs. Aggressive strip also drops markdown fence wrappers and bullet noise. Strip markdown focuses on fences / emphasis / headings for plain-text paste. Role / Context / Task wraps cleaned text into a simple scaffold when those labels are missing (JSON and System presets add output or hard-rule scaffolding instead).
